Still planning

"Planning without action is futile, action without planning is fatal." - Cornelius Fitchner

Let's see how many plans led to actions:

Who's joining?

The first part of the trip, in about a time span of one month, we'll be three Swiss guys. We all grew up in the same village and know each other pretty well since ages.

Time span, starting point, distance and countries?

Starting in August, we'll be heading from
South Ecuador, via Peru to our final destination Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. The distance is about 3100km, assuming you take the most direct route. As we obviously want to visit some tourist places during the trip, for example the Machu Pichu, the Lake Titicaca, and some cities like Lima, Cusco and La Paz we're going to ride some more Kilometers.

How to travel?

In the very beginning of your phase of ideas and dreams, while enjoying some beers in a local pub, suddenly the idea of going by motorcycle came up. We got totally lost in inspiring dreams and decided that this would be the most awesome way to experience the natural beauty of Latin America.

That this idea includes that much more planning wasn't that clear back then. Anyway, we followed our desires and found a place called HorizonsUnlimited where you find lots of information about travelling by bike. You also find a page where people sell their adventure-ready bikes.

Weeks of checking this page and placing ads there passed until we finally found some suitable bikes for us.

How to buy vehicles while being in Switzerland?

This is one of the most difficult parts, even if we have one huge benefit: My girlfriend lives in South Ecuador and is doing the purchase for us, as well as the paperwork for the bikes. Otherwise I would not see any easy solution for that. Like this we 'only' had to find guys selling bikes in a reasonable price segment which are as close as possible to South Ecuador to deliver the bike there.

Almost there

Almost there? Well... Let's say we at least know how to do the paperwork, and organize bikes. Two of three are already bought, the third is on its way. Not only the bikes need their time of planning, also health insurances, injections, possible visa, flights, luggage... But all of those is either done, can be done later or doesn't include that much effort!

Anyway, we're totally looking forward. Keep you updated.

Cheers
