Day 8: Up the mountains!

15th of August. This day we got up very early to arrive on time in Huaraz, if everything goes well. The clothes, hung between the bikes, were dry, the weather perfect again, luggage packed and we and the bikes are ready to go for another day full of pleasure.

The streets were in a good condition, not much traffic and what we obviously love, many curves.

This day we just stopped sometimes for photos of the impressive landscape and only ate some Oreos this day. But anyway, we didn't really want to stop as the riding was so much fun and Huaraz yet many kilometers away. So we just continued crossing all these m
ountains.

The last climb after the streets went down to the city was just incredible! We rode uphills until around 4200 meters over sea level where the promised landscape revealed himself. A city on 3300 meters, surrounded by impressive mountains full of snow.

Arrived in Huaraz and after a, finally again, warm shower in our Hostel we went to the city to check the market for the famous coca leaves. As they told us, that up in the mountains in Latin America, and for physically hard work, for example mine workers, people take coca leaves into their mouth, chew on it and let it there for a few minutes to receive energy of the plant, which is commonly known as the main ingredient for cocaine.

Yes, we found the leaves and decided to try them the next day, when we're going more uphill, direction Punto Olimpico. Now we just wanted to enjoy a pizza and a beer in the town of Huaraz. This day was a great experience!
